What's the true meaning of Christmas?

Jingle bells and Christmas lights still haven't made their way into my life. Everyday I'll drive past houses lit up with beautiful lights, christmas trees displayed glowing through the windows, and still absolutely no snow. All I've really done is work, work, and work. I mean, what else is there to do when you live in a house on wheels. On another note, I've come to the realization of many things lately. Seeing how I'm obviously not in the Christmas spirit yet, I've noticed how a lot of people aren't either (at least not the right christms spirit), working retail really shows you how humanity is handling holidays. It's not about spending time with each other, I mean obviously for some people it is, but I see so many people spending so much money on so many presents, for what? To rid your children, family, and friends of the real meaning behind christmas and to assure them that although you do everything for them 24/7, 365 days, anytime and anywhere, that you love them? They should already know that or get the hint. Obviously presents are nice, but does your child really need, 10 new shirts, 3 new pairs of shoes, an ipad, silver earings, a 200 dollar watch, 300 dollar headphones, a dog, and 50 dollar gift cards to victorias secret, target, and starbucks? No, she does not. No, he does not. No, they do not. Christmas is not about presents, and if you're not religious, then it may have a different meaning for you to, christmas is about being with the ones you love. Being grateful for what you have and being excited for the future and the accomplishments you will make. Obvjously, getting presents is nice. Who doesn't like getting things for free? No one. Everyone loves it. Yet, while you're sitting here, reading my rant, take a minute to think about other families. Think about people who don't celebrate christmas, think about those who god forbid, just lost everything, think about the homeless, think about everyone who isn't as fortunate to have such generous gifters in their lives. All those people, they don't celebrate christmas with a mountain of presents awaiting them, they celebrate a day where they're alive, together, and hopefully well. I've grown very sick of the greedy people that surround me, people who spend 800 dollars or more on gifts for their children who are more than likely expecting more than what you're getting them but realistically you can't even afford what you bought, but don't worry, you have a credit card. Christmas should not put you into debt! It should teach everyone that another year has come to an end, and through everything that may have happened this year, if you're reading this, you're alive, be gratefu, because others weren't as lucky as you, (rest in peace, gandpa). If you believe that your children, friends, or family members need hundreds of dollars worth of gifts, you're wrong. They don't need it. If you feel that this is the only way they'll know that you love them, then somethings not right. Because love isn't materialistic, it's not something you can buy, it's something you spread, a feeling or an act of kindness that brings joy and happiness to yours and everyone elses life. What greater gift is therer than love? Right, there isn't one, not even the ipad hidding in your closet. It's okay to get people presents, it's nice seeing someone happy over them. I know the feeling, but do me and everyone else in the world a favor and relax. Spend this holiday season with your family, friends, or anyone close to your heart because at the end of the day all you need is peace, love, and happiness. Merry Christmas.
